On average, Anderson County farmers have harvested nearly 147,000 total acres of grain crops each of the last 10 years. The average yield for all practices (dryland, irrigated, etc.) during this same period has been 91 bushels per acre for corn, 46 bushels per acre for wheat, 76 bushels per acre for grain sorghum, and 23 bushels per acre for soybeans.
Per the 2002 Census of Agriculture, soybeans continue to be our top crop with roughly 78,500 acres planted and a state ranking of number 4. However, in the last couple of years soybean acreages have been declining. Wheat acres are remaining steady while corn for grain acres have increased over 40% in the last 10 years.
